If you're playing Halloween host this year, make sure these are a part of your party planning. Set up a fondue pot and the homemade caramel will stay warm all through the evening, allowing guests to help themselves. In addition to the caramel sauce for dipping, there's a chocolate sauce for drizzling. But before you do the drizzle, do the decorating with your choice of chopped pretzels, cookies, pecans or granola.

Make this sauce ahead of time, or melt your favorite pre-made caramels into a creamy dip.

    For the Caramel Sauce:
    1 cup water
    1 cup sugar
    1/2 cup organic heavy cream

Choose white, dark, milk or all three chocolates, and melt into a creamy topping perfect for drizzling over apples.

    For the Chocolate Sauce:
3 ounces each white, milk and dark chocolate, chopped
3 pastry bags fitted with small writing tips

    For the Caramel Apples:
    6 organic apples
    6 wooden popsicle sticks
One 12 inch by 12 inch piece of Styrofoam, covered with wax paper

Halloween: The Best of Martha Stewart Living
Halloween is rivaled only by Christmas when it comes to the holidays that generate the most interest for Martha Stewart Living’s readers. Halloween is a compendium of the best Halloween ideas published in the magazine over the last decade. To help celebrate this ghoulish holiday, the editors of Martha Stewart Living bring us Halloween, a compilation of all the best tricks and treats of the spooky season. Organized in two sections, Halloween makes this holiday so much fun it’s scary. In “Tricking,” pranksters will find all manner of pumpkin carving, eerie lighting, and makeup and decorating ideas. “Treating” provides the recipes for having a Halloween feast or a hanted-house party and ideas for making mischief with kids.

Combine water and sugar in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Turn heat to low and stir until the sugar dissolves. Turn heat to medium and let mixture simmer until golden brown. Do not stir. Remove pan from heat and carefully stir in heavy cream. Caramel will thicken as it cools down. Pour into crock pot turned on low.

Melt each chocolate separately in a double boiler. Using a spatula, carefully spoon each chocolate into its own pastry bag. Repeat until each chocolate is melted and in a pastry bag.

Push a popsicle stick into the bottom of each apple. Swirl apple in caramel. Sprinkle with desired toppings. Drizzle different kinds of chocolate randomly over the apple. Stick in styrofoam to set. When everyone is finished decorating, place apples in refrigerator to firm up, or enjoy immediately! If your guests wish to take their apple home as a party favor, wrap in a square of wax paper and secure with a black or orange ribbon.

Crushed pecans, crushed almonds, slivered walnuts, crushed banana chips, mini chocolate chips, granola
